Deathkey : Doctrine Of Intolerant HatredFreak Animal Records : 2010
Format : 3 sided 2 x LP

I have always been simultaneously amazed and amused at the reactions caused by each consecutive release as well as the internet flame wars that erupted over the very mention of the name Deathkey. Hell, an effort was made, and failed, to have this website shut down over the interview I did with the man behind the project a couple of years back. But two facts remained, the releases sold out and the dedication to his beliefs have never waivered, whether anyone agreed or not. Now four years and as many full-lengths later, the curiosity behind the project has began to wane and it’s left to stand by its merits alone. If you’ve had any doubts, then this should smash them to bits. Three sides of well honed hatred divided into two parts, Pt. 1: Blood Revolt on LP 1 and Blood Supremacy on the second.

The first thing I noticed right after the WWII German marching song intro to “Order Of The Death's Head” as Part 1 kicks off, there seemed to be a more organic approach to the tracks this time around. Not that it was ever some laptop wizardry but this time it seems much more analogue based than before. The vocals, while still scary as fuck are more distinguishable than ever. There’s an obvious NON influence as a metallic base slices throughout like a spinning saw blade. “Consummation : Singularity” breaches Harsh Noise territory with a crushing roar of sound. The first guest makes an appearance on “Die Juden Sind Unser Unglück”. Sinister vocals courtesy of Der Stürmer’s Jarl Von Hagall run headlong into subtle but powerful crunch and crackle. “Donum E Irritum” begins with (I believe) a Crowley sample, then jarred from the hypnotic verse of Aleister by a blast furnace of sound. Further pushing the LP up my scale of respect is “Revolt Against The Modern World” with lyrics taken straight from Julius Evola. Sonically delving more into straight Industrial, this slow rumble is one of my favorite Deathkey tracks to date. Sparse yet chaotic, like a Panzer picking off the survivors on a blasted field of battle, I truly hope to hear more in this approach.

Part 2 on the single-sided second LP begins with a sample from a “race and religion” course or speech and then onto the assault of “Blood Supremacy”. This one is another slow burn that manages to prove that power doesn’t always mean loud, although I prefer turning it way up. The second guest vocalist on the LP appears on “Behead The Semite” from none other than Mikko Aspa. Now in case you’ve been locked in a closet for the past 15 years, he’s the owner/founder of Freak Animal and the man behind Grunt, Clandestine Blaze, Stabat Mater and about 20 other things. He also has one of the most powerful voices in Power Electronics today and has pretty much set the standard for all else to follow. It fits perfect with the sonic crackle provided by Deathkey. “Death March” is so violent and vile you almost need to wipe the spittle from the speakers. Closing out Part 2 is “Attainment Of Spiritual Mastery”. Again, I like this direction a lot. There’s even a rhythmic throb, like the pounding of some diabolical factory while a constant hum runs throughout. Another of my favorites.

Visually this release is absolutely stunning. Mr. Deathkey has once again proven himself as a graphic artists as well as a creator of sonic terror. The two white vinyl LPs are housed in a thick, cardboard sleeve printed in a black/UV lacquer ink mix. Also included is a 12 page booklet containing more amazing art as well as printed lyrics. This release really establishes Deathkey as a Power Electronics artists and not just some enigma to like (or hate) because of the controversy surrounding it. Regardless of your political leanings, this is a mandatory release for fans of industrial music. Limited to 250 copies.
